Job Summary and Qualifications

The Registered Nurse demonstrates knowledge and skills in the care of patients. Each service also requires specialized skills. The delivery of care is based on criteria that is age appropriate and is based on the physical, psychosocial, cultural, safety, and learning needs of the individual patients. The Registered Nurse may be asked to float to areas other than his/her assigned service area, and will perform only those duties for which he/she has demonstrated competency. The Registered Nurse performs delegated duties consistent with the scope of practice and functions within the philosophy and overall plan of care at Rose Medical Center. Specialized skills for Labor and Delivery/LDPN include: (1) ability to provide the nursing process for low risk and high risk antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients; (2) ability to scrub and circulate in the Operating Room for cesarean sections and other surgeries related to OB care; (3) ability to provide recovery room care to patients undergoing surgery related to OB care; (4) ability to provide routine care to the healthy newborn; (5) ability to institute resuscitation to a compromised newborn. Perform Lab testing as assigned based on protocol of each test, documenting results and communicating critical as defined. Complete competency as required. Follow lab testing safety guidelines, maintenance and QC completion/documentation, and proficiency testing as assigned. Follow "good lab practice" in testing and initiate corrective action as issues occur with test system or result. Educational records (diploma or transcript) are mandatory for staff performing non-waived testing. Position will be responsible for taking call and meeting call shift requirements established by the department.

Here is what you can expect being a Labor and Delivery nurse with us:

• Assess, plans and evaluate patient care needs including obtaining patient history and assessing for labor risk factors. 
• Manage the patient's pain including epidural and patient controlled analgesia administration management.
• You provide age appropriate care to his/her patients based on criteria that is age appropriate and is based on the physical, psychosocial, cultural, safety and learning needs of the individual patient
• Your role preforms delegated duties consistent with his/her scope of practice and functions within the philosophy and overall plan of care delivery

Qualifications for being a Labor and Delivery Room Registered Nurse:

• Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing; BSN desirable.
• Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Colorado or current RN compact license from another state for the 1st 180 days of employment.
• Current BCLS, ACLS, and NRP
• 1 to 2 years Labor and Delivery Experience Preferred
• AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring or Advanced Fetal Monitoring Certification preferred.
