Position descriptions are reviewed and revised to meet the changing needs of the organization.TITLE: Anesthesia Technician JOB OVERVIEW: A health care provider whose responsibility is to supervise, coordinate and perform the roll of an anesthesia technician. Works with Surgical Service management to provide schedule assignments, education and training for all of the Anesthesia Assists and Technicians in the department. Works in conjunction with the charge nurse to coordinate room turnovers. Monitors anesthesia machines for repair and maintenance needs in conjunction with bio-med. Also responsible for maintaining stock levels for inventory. AREA OF ASSIGNMENT: Anesthesiology HOURS OF WORK: Various RESPONSIBLE TO: Manager, Perioperative ServicesPREREQUISITES:
Three years previous experience as an Anesthesia Technician or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience, preferred.
One to three years previous experience with anesthesia supplies, equipment, anesthesia set up, and as a materials ordering assistant preferred.
Must complete MA - Phlebotomy license issued by the Washington State Department of Health within 90 days of hire.
Must have current ASATT certification as an Anesthesia Technician or Technologist in good standing or be willing to obtain it within 3 months of hire.
BCLS, ACLS, and PALS required within 6 months.
Past history of good attendance to VMC standards.
Past history of satisfactory job performance that meets VMC standards.
Must demonstrate the ability to comprehend and read with the immediate execution of directions.
Able to communicate effectively in oral and written form in the English language.
Demonstrates the ability to work and stay on task without supervision.
Demonstrates responsible behavior, initiative, confidentiality and good interpersonal skills.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with the physical and emotional developments of all age groups served.
Demonstrates ability to actively participate and apply Valley Values in daily work.
Serve as an instructor/facilitator of educational in-services for anesthesia technicians.
Assist Anesthesia providers using aseptic or sterile technique with non-invasive and invasive patient procedures including peripheral; and/or central; intravenous and/or arterial line placement; airway management techniques including mask, endotracheal and/or emergency methods; and regional anesthesia techniques.
May provide direct patient care as needed and administering injections and IV drugs with an anesthesiologist's present.
Assists in rapid turnover of OR suites.
Coordinate opening of OR suites to initiate suite readiness for surgery.
Assists management with development of policies and procedures.
Identifies, communicates and helps initiate opportunities for improvement with management.
Coordinates daily assignments for other Anesthesia Technicians in their department.
Troubleshoots equipment, makes minor repairs and exchanges defective equipment when required.
Gives input to management for staff development and performance appraisals.
Participates in department quality improvement and risk management activities.
Assists in the development of action plans in response to professional staff feedback regarding improvement opportunities.
Assists with assessment data collection per unit/department standard.
Coordinates supplies and maintains the equipment for the airway management cart, cell savers, rapid infusers, anesthesia machines, defibrillators, difficult intubation cart, malignant hyperthermia cart, laser endotracheal tube, Biz monitors, anesthesia workroom and all other anesthesia related equipment.
Assists managing outdates of medication and equipment.
Insures accuracy in stocking of medication trays.
Assists with blood check in and infusion.
Coordinates trial and review of anesthesia equipment for purchase.
Strong ability to do multiple tasks.
Aids in capital budget preparation.
